I really appreciate the efforts of Brother Jonathan Johnson in taking seriously the counsel of Elder M. Russel Ballard to use the Internet to share the Gospel. I totally agree and express my desire to participate in the same cause. I actually started with a blog about the True Church on googles’ blogger but no one has viewed in the 2 years that it was up. I don’t know how to advertise it. Now that I have new avenues and forums to participate in, I think it would be easier to do this internet sharing of the gospel. I also agree that the web is the next frontier in missionary work and in helping today’s generation prepare to go and serve missions.

We have to be flexible and open for change. We have to harness the vast technology available to us and to the world. I appreciate so much the media departments of the Church who are doing a really good job in reaching millions of people through internet, radio, tv, print etc. I wish to be involved in this kind of undertaking.

Although it took him the whole class period to explain all of the stuff, which he could have summarized and condensed more with emphasis on strong keypoints instead of a long discussion, the vital and crucial crux of his message outweighed all other considerations.

I think the Ministry of Foreign Affairs project is a disaster because they have unclear objectives and they are not ready in terms of funding. It just lacked planning so it failed big time.

Competitive advantage is something we can do or have that others don’t. What do you have that I should hire you instead of 2000 others applying for the same job. Logistics are detailed coordination of complex operation involving people, materials etc.
Leads are potential client. Businesses need new customers, if we keep our old ones and not generate new ones, we will lose money. There are systems that keep track of these.
Finance based systems, general ledger systems, accounting system, tax and other functional systems.

Its interesting that there are a lot of databases for corporate finance CCH Intelliconnect, Deal Pipeline, HBS Baker Library Datastream and Business Source Complete. Bloomberg is an emerging program that is useful in the corporate world. I have found out that there are numerous job opportunities for people with technical skills in these fields. It is amazing how IT has completely changed and enhanced how we do business in the world today. I think this exercise helped to make me see the bigger picture of the business world in our century.

#2 As a business professional, I will use a database to keep track of information that is difficult to keep track of using just a spreadsheet. For example if I want to keep track of individual students, ID numbers, their grades, financial accounts, status, activities and others. I would use a spreadsheet for simple cases such as a list of all clubs we have in the school.

Personal databases are used for smaller, simpler database applications. It usually justs serves a single user while Enterprise DBMS are used for thousands of users anre support 24/7 operations.

We could get buy with just forms, reports and queries when we have simple data to manage. Otherwise, we need to hire personnel if we deal with complex data and when we don’t have the knowledge and expertise.

These are the things I learned from class today. Networking in simple terms in going up and up until we reach someone who has the information of who we should get the message to. Wireless Access points are plugged to cables that run to a switch. Modem changes computer signal to a series of sounds We can send signals using light reflected through cables of fiber optic wires. Dial up and ethernet cables uses copper wires. Backbone of Internet is in fiber optic cables below the ground. We are literally connected, connections of wide area networks. We can also have satellite uplinks. More expensive and slower – satellites. It is just amazing how connected we are through all these components.

I finally learned the difference between Dial-up and DSL, all i know at first that it is better to use DSL, now I know what the real difference is. Dial up uses and interferes with telephone lines and only transmits at a speed of 56 kbps. DSL on the other hand does not interfere with telephone lines and transmits to speeds up to 256 to 768 kbps.

I also learned the meaning of Protocol which is a rule that two devices communicating with each other follow.

Larry’s success in the case study is really remarkable. I would like to develop such skill and make money out of creating LAN connections for some small scale businesses in the future.

I learned the difference between database and spreadsheet. Databases are used when its hard to organize multiple data sets in a spreadsheet. Itunes is a program that runs on top of a database. Spreadsheets are for thins with less overhead, simple data sets and single data sets.

I learned a new term that I have never heard before – Metadata, which is data that describes data. Also the heirarchy of data elements from bytes to columns to rows and then to files.
The case study was also interesting where benchamarking is used to test products but the losers run their own tests to make results favor their own.

I have leaned something new today, that is that hard drives are actually magnetic disks. i have always thought that hard drives are just chips. I also learned about Linux being a good server operating system. Another thing I learned is about the difference between client and server. Clients are for word processing, spreadsheets and others while servers provide service, they need to be faster, larger and more powerful computers.
